The Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) provides funding and reimbursement for services to non-profit and for-profit corporations, as well as public entities, which provide services to seniors and their caregivers living within the City of Detroit, Highland Park, Hamtramck, Harper Woods, and the five (5) Grosse Pointe communities. Funding is provided through Federal (Older Americans Act and National Family Caregiver Support Program) and State sources.
Grants
Grants are awarded to programs providing services to seniors and their caregivers through a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process. For FY 2010-2012, proposals were accepted for the following services:
- Adult Day Care Services
- Caregiver Education, Support & Training
- Hearing Services
- Vision Services
- Elder Abuse Prevention
- Home Care Assistance
- Legal Assistance
- Long Term Care Ombudsman
- Nutition Services
- Outreach
- Respite Care
- Specialized (Kinship) Respite Care
- Wellness Centers
- Transportation
- Chore Services
Direct Purchase of Services
The DAAA also provides reimbursement on a fee for service basis to organizations participating in the Direct Purchase of Service (DPOS) provider pool. DPOS agreements are established through a competitive bid process for provision of services to Project CHOICE and MI Choice care management clients. For FY 2010-2012, bids were accepted for the following services:
- Adult Day Care
- Chore Services
- Counseling
- Durable Medical Equipment and Supplies
- Environmental Modification
- Homemaking
- Home Delivered Meals
- Personal Care
- Personal Care Supervision
- Personal Emergency ERsponse Systems
- Respite Care (In and Out of Home)
- Private-Duty Nursing
- Training (independent living skills)
- Transportation
Funding Cycle
Grant proposals and DPOS bids are accepted every three (3) years. Requests for Proposals /Bids may be issued more frequently if additional funding becomes available.
Requests for Proposals (RFP) & Requests for Bid (RFB) notices are advertised in the legal notice section of the Sunday edition of major local newspapers. The next RFP and RFB are scheduled to be released in the spring of 2012.
