Welcome to the Family Elder Network!

The Family Elder Network (FEN) is an $8 million, ten-year initiative which provides services to seniors and their families within the Detroit Empowerment zone (EZ). It is the only Empowerment Zone project in the nation that is specifically designed to provider services to older adults. About 22,000 adults, age 60 and older, live in the Detroit Empowerment Zone area. FEN Officers guide and support FEN services delivered by four organizations.

FEN exists to improve services to older adults and their families. Its specialized services, which respond to the needs of the well elderly, as well as the homebound, include:

Neighborhood Senior Service Centers where seniors can access multiple services such as legal advice, nutrition help, or housing assistance at three different locations. Call Adult Well-Being Services for more information - (313) 833-3760.

Detroit Area Agency on Aging Homebound Elderly Care Management Program is designed to help older adults to live independently within their communities. Call Detroit Area Agency on Aging – (313) 446-4444.

An Older Adult Employment and Computer Learning Center to provide opportunities for those in need of a job and wanting continued learning. Call Operation ABLE – (313) 832-0922.

A Detroit Area Agency on Aging Senior Information System Project which uses technology to link older adults, family caregivers and service providers to community resources through Detroit Eldernet Online, a network of SeniorNet Computer Learning Centers and the Shared I & R Database Network. EZ Ride, an assisted elderly transportation services program which provides door-to-door access to the senior service centers and other needed services. Call the Eastside Community Resource Center/EZRide - (313) 521-1900.
