MMAP Counselors / Healthy Aging and Assessments Specialists are all housed under Wellness Services.
Medicare / Medicaid Assistance Program helps recipients of MMA entitlements and their families understand Medicare and Medicaid eligibility, helps with enrolment and application process. Counselors provide information about benefits and help solve problems and explain related insurance products. In this area we mostly utilize volunteers. Healthy Aging Department manages number of smaller health related grants, which address directly aging issues like chronic disease, disease prevention, health promotion, nutrition. Go to our current Annual Report to find out more. Typical candidate in this area would need to have Med, MHA or similar education or experience in development of related programs or educational sessions, grant application process, excellent communication skills; experience with senior population and knowledge of issues affecting seniors.
Nutrition Department– widely known as Detroit Meals on Wheels focuses on meals provision oversight and assessment. Go to our recent Annual Report to read more about their accomplishments. Candidates in this area would need to have customer service experience working with senior population. Some staff is responsible to provide in-house assessments of clients who receive Home Delivered Meals, other staff responds to HDM client inquires over the phone, another staff oversee Congregate Meal Program. Safe Serve certification is required for some position, others need to have excellent phone skills, all need computer skills, excellent customer service skills and some knowledge about nutrition.
